Peruvian hotel wall collapse, At least 15 people have died.

Civil defence chief Jorge Chavez said dozens of people who had been dancing were caught under the collapsing wall and a roof early Sunday at the Alhambra hotel in the Andean city of Abancay in southern Peru.

Thirty-four people were wounded, including five who are in critical conditions, he stated.

Rescue crews are still searching through the rubble for survivors, the local media reported.

The wedding celebrations at the hotel had reportedly gathered more than 100 guests. Some 50 people are said to have been close to the wall when it collapsed.

Peruvian authorities suggested a landslide near the hotel following periods of heavy rain may have caused the wall to cave in.

The local civil defense head, Rusby Zela, said the city had been battered by five days of rain.

She said that led to the collapse.
